In the heart of fashionable Knightsbridge, Hans Crescent is a development that sits amidst a myriad of exclusive designer shops and famous department stores. Given its select location, it was paramount to EAG’s design package to forge an air of individuality and style.
Working with the architect Paul Davis and Partners from the early stages of the project, the seamless integration of the bespoke terracotta “Lamella” elements into this curtain wall design was one of the key factors in EAG’s success in securing the project.
Produced by Sannini in Florence, the terracotta baguettes were mounted on a bespoke frame fixed to either Schuco FW 50+ curtain walling, or in front of the RS 65 side-hung, open-in windows, forming a spandrel zone in either instance.
The terracotta elements were chosen to complement the façades of
the adjacent, famous Harrods store. The external works were completed with
extensive areas of high level curtain walling to the recessed terraces,
topped with brise soleil solar shading to assist in part L compliance.
The large windows to the main elevation contained tilt turn opening lights and were glazed, as was the curtain walling, with high performance, double glazed low-e units comprising toughened and laminated glass for enhanced acoustic performance.
A structurally glazed entrance façade with automatic doors was incorporated into the scope of work, together with an extensive internal atrium package comprising full height glazing and a complex bespoke metalwork package to one façade to form a feature louvered screen, the centre piece of the whole development. Aluminium grills were integrated into the internal atrium wall at each floor level to vent the adjacent office space into the atrium space.
The completed project is one in a line of successful contracts negotiated with main contractor Galliford Try.
