When you're working on one of the world's most famous hospitals, the job has to be done with almost surgical precision.
That is why an East Anglian architectural glazing firm has created a life-size replica of part of Great Ormond Street Hospital at its headquarters to ensure a multi-million-pound building project works successfully.
English Architectural Glazing, based at Mildenhall, is working with other construction partners on the project to build a new wing at the renowned London children's hospital.
Together they have built a mock-up of a section of the building in Suffolk to ensure all the various parts of the new build fit together successfully before the real work takes place.
EAG managing director Simon Gladwin said: "We decided to build this full-scale model to ensure that we ironed out all the problems that may occur before we did it for real. The mock-up at our Mildenhall HQ is a faithful replica of a section of the building and allows all the construction firms to complete their work to the specifications. This is such an important project for a very important hospital and we want to make sure we get it absolutely right first time."
The mock up, known as the GOSH rig, has cost over £40,000 to build and test work by all the building companies is under way. The work on Great Ormond Street Hospital will be completed later this year.
EAG, based on Mildenhall's industrial estate in Chiswick Avenue, has invested tens of thousands of pounds to improve the quality of its office accommodation. The facelift includes an enlarged reception and better working facilities for staff.
The company employs more than 100 people split between its HQ and numerous sites around the UK where it carries out huge contracts to fit glazing and curtain walling.
Mr Gladwin added: "These structural improvements to our HQ are an essential part of our expansion plans. We have grown to become one of the best-known architectural glazing companies in the UK and we now have offices that are equipped to deal with our increasing number of national and international clients."
EAG's other projects include work for a new library at the Open University and the New Providence Wharf luxury apartments in London.
